Categories Rush
A category and a letter appear, and everyone types as many answers as they can before the clock runs out. Every valid answer scores a point, and answers nobody else thought of score double. Answers stay hidden until the round ends, then everyone sees what the others wrote. Play against bots or online with up to eight players.
Categories Rush is a fast word game for two to eight players. Each round shows a category and a letter, such as "Animals starting with B", and everyone types as many answers as they can before the time runs out.
There are 27 categories, from Animals and Countries to Action words and Things at school, and the category–letter pairs never repeat until every pair has been played. Play against computer players or online with friends.
How to play Categories Rush
- Read the category and the letter, then type an answer and press Enter (or tap Add). Keep going until the timer runs out.
- Every valid answer scores 1 point. An answer that nobody else gave scores 1 more.
- Capital letters, extra spaces, plurals and common spelling variants are all fine: "Bears", "bear" and "the bear" count as the same answer.
- Your answers stay hidden from the other players during the round. When time is up, everyone's answers appear side by side: green answers count, gold ones were yours alone, grey ones did not count.
- Play 3, 5 or 7 rounds of 45, 60 or 90 seconds. The most points at the end wins.
Tips
- Get the obvious answers down first, then hunt for the unusual ones that score double.
- Do not stop to fix a typo: just type the word again.
- Think in groups: for Animals, go through farm animals, then pets, then the zoo, then the sea.
- Watch the counts beside each player's name to see how fast the others are going.
Questions
How are answers checked?
Against built-in answer lists for each category, plus extra accepted words from an open dictionary. Answers must start with the round's letter.
Why was my answer not counted?
It may start with a different letter, or it may not be on the list for that category. Names of brands, people and made-up words are not accepted.
Can I play alone?
Yes. Play against one to seven computer players at easy, medium or hard. Harder bots find more answers, including rarer ones.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. The answer box stays at the top, so the keyboard never covers it.
