Who's the Imposter
A party game of clues and suspicion. Everyone gets the secret word except the imposter. Take turns giving one-word clues, then vote out who you think is faking it. Catch them and the crew scores; if the imposter escapes, or guesses the word, they score. Play with bots, friends on one phone, or online.
Who's the Imposter is a party game of clues and bluffing for 3 to 8 players. Everyone is shown the same secret word except one player, the imposter, who only knows the category. Each player gives a short clue that proves they know the word without giving it away to the imposter.
After the clues, everyone votes for the player they think is faking. Catch the imposter and the crew scores. If the imposter escapes, or gets caught but guesses the word, the imposter scores. Play several rounds; the imposter changes every round.
How to play Who's the Imposter
- Look at your card. You either see the secret word, or you learn that you are the imposter and only see the category.
- Take turns giving a clue of one to three words. A clue may not contain the secret word itself.
- Everyone gives one or two clues, depending on the settings. Clues stay on screen next to each player.
- Vote for the player you suspect. Most votes is caught; a tie means nobody is caught and the imposter escapes.
- A caught imposter gets one chance to pick the secret word from a list. A right guess steals the round.
- Scoring: crew members get 1 point when the imposter is caught, plus 1 if they voted for them. An imposter who escapes gets 3, and one who guesses the word gets 2.
Tips
- Crew: be specific enough to prove you know the word, but not so obvious that the imposter can guess it.
- Imposter: listen to the clues before yours and give one that fits them. Vague clues like “tasty” get noticed.
- In Undercover mode the imposter gets a similar word and does not know they are the imposter. Watch for clues that almost fit.
- With 7 or 8 players there are two imposters.
Questions
How many players do I need?
Three to eight. Computer players can fill the table, so you can also play alone.
Can we play on one phone?
Yes. Choose Same device and pass the phone around: each player sees their card in secret and votes in secret.
What is Undercover mode?
Instead of seeing only the category, the imposter quietly gets a related word (for example Burger instead of Pizza) and has to work out that they are the odd one out.
