Lantern Maze
Race out of a hedge maze that is different every round. Your lantern only lights the paths around you, so you have to find the way as you go. Grab speed boots, a bright torch or a map, and reach the beam of light in the middle first. Every start is exactly as far from the exit, so the race is always fair. Play against bots or online.
Lantern Maze is a race through a hedge maze at night. Every round builds a brand new maze, so you can never learn the route by heart. Your lantern only lights the paths close to you, and your minimap fills in as you explore.
All players start in different corners, and the maze is built so that every corner is exactly as far from the exit as the others. The beam of light in the middle shows where the exit is; finding the way there is up to you. Play solo against computer players or online with up to eight people.
How to play Lantern Maze
- Run with WASD or the arrow keys. On a phone or tablet, drag the stick in the bottom left.
- Head for the tall beam of light in the middle of the maze and step into the glowing ring to escape.
- The first player out scores 5 points, then 3, 2 and 1. After the first escape, everyone else has 20 seconds to get out.
- Pick up power-ups on the way: speed boots make you run faster, a bright torch lets you see further, and a map shows the whole maze on your minimap for a few seconds.
- With gold keys turned on, the exit gate stays locked until you touch a key. Keys show as gold beams.
- Play one, three or five mazes. The most points at the end wins.
Tips
- Watch the minimap: it remembers every path you have seen, so you do not walk the same dead end twice.
- The straight line to the beam is often not the way out. If a path keeps leading away, try another branch early.
- Save time by grabbing a map power-up near the start of a round, when it shows you the most.
- Corridors guide you around corners, so on a phone you can just push the stick roughly the way you want to go.
Questions
Is the maze really different every time?
Yes. Each round builds a new random maze, with loops and dead ends, and it is never the same twice.
Is it fair if the maze is random?
Yes. The maze has the same shape from every corner, turned around the centre, so every start is exactly as far from the exit.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. There is a touch stick, and the camera follows you in portrait or landscape.
Can I play alone?
Yes. Race up to seven computer players at easy, medium or hard. Computer players explore the maze too; they do not know the way out.
